Anti-Trafficking Legislation

Up-to-date statistics on human trafficking are notoriously hard to find. Many studies are outdated, have small sample sizes, or are inundated with stereotypes and personal agendas. Internet searches often consume a lot of time and take away from other work you could be doing. With that in mind, Safe House Project has compiled a list of statistics from reputable sources, including government agencies and peer-reviewed research.

These statistics give insight into the amount of work left to do in legislation regarding ending human trafficking.

  • 570 children were arrested for “prostitution” in 2014. 75 of them were under 15.

  • 57.7% of juveniles arrested for prostitution were African American according to a 2020 report

  • 51.6% of criminal human trafficking cases in 2018 involved only child victims

  • 32 states have vacatur laws in place for survivors

19 of those 32 states will only vacate prostitution-specific charges
