Safe House Placement FAQ
Safe House Project provides placement for minor and adult survivors of human trafficking. Eligibility depends on various factors, including the survivor’s current situation and specific needs. If you or someone you know needs help, please complete our Safe House Placement Form to begin the process.
To start the placement process, you need to fill out the Safe House Placement Form above. This form collects vital information that helps us find the most suitable placement option. If the form feels overwhelming, you can also request a callback through our simple form or call us at 507.769.0819
The form will ask for details such as the survivor’s name, age, current location, whether they are currently with their trafficker or in a safe environment, and specific needs like medical care, mental health services, or special accommodations. Accurate information is crucial for finding the best placement.
The timeline for placement can vary depending on the urgency of the situation and the availability of suitable shelters or residential programs. Some shelters may offer immediate placement within hours, while others might take longer due to factors like availability and intake processes.
If the situation is urgent, please indicate this on your form. At Safe House Project, we strive to find placements as quickly as possible, and urgent cases are prioritized.
Yes, survivors can be placed in safe homes outside of their current state assuming their legal standing and child custody agreements allow for it. This can often provide a safer environment, away from areas where the trafficking occurred. Please indicate on the form if out-of-state placement is an option.
Our placement process takes into account any special needs or health conditions. Whether the survivor requires medical care, mental health support, or accommodations for physical disabilities, we work to find a shelter or residential program that can provide the appropriate level of care.
Yes, Safe House Project works with both faith-based and non-faith-based programs. The placement form allows you to specify whether you prefer a faith-based program, and if so, the acceptable level of religious involvement.
If the survivor is in immediate danger and facing an emergency, call 911 immediately. After ensuring immediate safety, you can contact us to assist with the safe house placement process. For non-emergency situations, please use our online forms or contact us at 507.769.0819.
Once you submit the form, Safe House Project will review the information and reach out to you as soon as possible. Submissions are monitored from Monday to Friday, 7 AM – 7 PM EST. If you need to follow up, you can contact us directly at 507.769.0819.
Safe House Project provides research, resource referral, and transportation to a shelter or residential program at no cost to the survivors. Some residential programs, especially those that follow a more independent or transitional living style, may require survivors to pay rent, intake fees, or other costs. In such instances, our team will communicate these requirements clearly to the survivors upfront.
CAN I REFER SOMEONE ELSE FOR SAFE HOME PLACEMENT?
Yes, family members, advocates, and agencies can refer a survivor for placement by filling out the Safe House Placement Form on their behalf. Please ensure that the information provided is as accurate and detailed as possible to assist in finding the best placement.
WHAT HAPPENS AFTER PLACEMENT IN A SHELTER OR RESIDENTIAL HOME?
In most shelters or short-term residential programs, survivors receive immediate, temporary support designed to address basic needs and provide safety. This often includes secure housing, access to essential services, and, in some cases, limited counseling and support. These programs primarily focus on stabilizing survivors in the short term, offering a safe place to stay while they plan their next steps or transition to longer-term solutions. Safe House Project offers placement in specialized safe homes where survivors can access comprehensive, long-term care tailored to support their full recovery and independence.
