The Problem We Couldn't Ignore
Last year, more than 113,500 reports of children being sold for sex reached the national tipline. These kids are being identified. But identified is not safe. A report is not a location, and a location is not a way out. More than 100,000 kids we know about are still trapped, and those are only the ones we know about.
You want to help end trafficking. But it's hard to know whether your support actually reaches survivors or just funds another line item. We built Safe House Project to close the gap between identified and safe. 88 cents of every dollar goes to the work, and $1,030 brings one survivor all the way home.
Why We Started
Safe House Project was founded in 2017 out of a simple, urgent belief: survivors shouldn't have to wait for safety. Our logo, a square inspired by the Log Cabin quilt pattern used during the Underground Railroad, reflects that legacy. A quilt like this once signaled a safe house to those fleeing slavery. We carry that same symbol forward as a modern promise: a safe place, made ready.
Since then, we've grown into a national leader in the fight against human trafficking, working to raise survivor identification rates, deliver urgent response, and connect survivors to safe housing and holistic care.
How We Work
No single hero ends trafficking. It takes a network of donors, survivors, corporate partners, and safe home operators, all playing their part.
That's why every survivor we serve gets more than a bed. We connect them to medical and dental care, therapy, life skills training, and legal support, the full path from crisis to a stable, self-directed life.
